Our sustainability mission
At Derbigum, sustainability isn’t a separate department – it’s how we think and act. We design roofs that last for generations, with a focus on raw materials, energy, and reuse. For us, a roof is only truly sustainable if it doesn’t end up in landfill at the end of its service life, but instead gets a second life through reuse.
Circularity as a foundation
What began with bitumen recycling in 1990 has grown into a comprehensive approach. We operate in closed loops, use recycled materials, and develop technologies – such as Novitumen® – to minimise the use of virgin raw materials.
Planet Passionate: ambition at group level
Planet Passionate is a ten-year sustainability program focused on tackling climate change, promoting circularity, and protecting the environment.
This group initiative is backed by clear, measurable targets for energy, CO2, water, and circularity – to be achieved by 2030. At our production site in Perwez, we’re putting these ambitions into action through investments in renewable energy, recycling, and a dramatic reduction in fossil raw material use:
Self-generated energy
At our Perwez site, we’re reducing emissions through local solar panels and 100% green electricity. This brings us closer to energy independence while minimising our production footprint.
Lower emissions
We’re electrifying our internal transport and improving the efficiency of our logistics. Not all transport is short – especially when exporting – but we ensure every kilometre counts.
By significantly reducing fossil raw materials in our products, we also cut CO2 impact throughout the entire lifecycle.
Towards zero bitumen waste
Cutting residues and surplus bitumen are collected by certified installers and returned to our recycling unit through our dedicated return network.
Our goal? Zero bitumen waste – only raw materials for the next generation of roofs.
