From idea to product
Every Derbigum product starts with a rigorous development process. An idea only becomes a product after countless analyses, extensive lab testing, field trials, and real-world validation. This ensures that each innovation is not only sustainable, but also remains sustainable in its application.

Stage-Gate approach
We follow the Stage-Gate methodology, a proven innovation framework. Each idea goes through several assessment stages (‘gates’), during which it is tested for technical feasibility, environmental impact, practicality on site and customer relevance. Only ideas that pass every gate are developed further. This ensures speed and quality, with input form every department.
Test sites & feedback
No product reaches the market without being tested in the field. In collaboration with certified roofers and distribution partners, we install prototypes on real roofs and assess their performance in various conditions. The feedback from installers is invaluable. They know better than anyone what works in practice. This input feeds directly back into our lab, ensuring that our products are not only innovative, but also effective and easy to use.

Applied. Tested. Approved!
Novitumen® is a perfect example of our innovation approach. We worked on it for more than three years, with various prototypes, practical tests in several countries and a wide mix of recycled material combinations. The result? A new generation of roofing membranes made from 100% recycled bitumen, without compromising on ease of use, waterproofing, or lifespan.
