FAQ
Here you will find the most frequently asked questions and answers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. However, the technical issues may be different for each project. So if your roof is complex, we recommend that you contact our technical department. They will be happy to help you.
In combination with VAEPLAN VS on a substrate consisting of wood, concrete, masonry, metal. On PIR insulation with mineralised glass fleece or aluminium as a finish, the primer can be omitted in most cases.
VAEPRIMER D is a water-based bituminous emulsion and can be used on bitumen. It is not suitable at low temperatures below +5°C.
VAEPRIMER L is a fast drying solvent borne primer that can also be used at lower temperatures.
VAEBOND Contact is used for bonding VAEPLAN F or VAEPLAN V to upstands or around roof penetrations.
With brush or sheepskin paint roller.
VAELIQUID is a mixture of VAEPLAN raw material and VAEFUSION S. VAEFUSION S is a solvent and can evaporate from the VAELIQUID with ageing. This causes the VAELIQUID to become less liquid. As long as it has not become completely solid, you can add a dose of VAEFUSION S and stir it gently so that it becomes usable again.
Allow the spray bottle to drain completely by turning it upside down. When the VAELIQUID has dried up on the inside, you can loosen the formed skin with a scriber or long screwdriver and remove it. The spray bottle can then be used again as new.
VAELIQUID is compulsory for green roofs.
On other roofs, it is highly recommended on counter seams, on all T-seams, on details such as roof penetrations, drains and emergency overflows, and in the lowest areas of the roof at risk of water stagnation.
On all other seams, it is recommended and can also provide aesthetic added value.
No, you cannot. The solvent in VAELIQUID is already bound in such a way that it cannot penetrate the foil sufficiently to make a quality weld.
Both with new and old VAEPLAN.
In the case of new VAEPLAN, it will improve the weldability by removing any moisture on the surface.
In the case of older and soiled VAEPLAN, this will obviously clean the surface.
No. It is strictly forbidden to use DERBIBOND NT/S to seal the overlaps of the waterproofing. The overlaps are always torched and must be pressed with a pressure roller of +/- 15kg.
For “no-flame” applications, where the use of the open flame is limited or even forbidden, the overlaps can be carried out with hot air, DERBISEAL S or Derbigum DMS.
Extremely cold weather is first and foremost a problem for the liquid accessories, such as glue, solvent, …. These do not react or react too slowly at low temperatures or are not liquid enough and therefore more difficult to apply.
The VAEPLAN roofing membrane can be installed, but will be more rigid due to the cold temperatures and therefore more difficult to install flat without undulations.
To improve the flatness, the foil can be heated with a flame. The necessary safety measures for working with an open flame must be observed. In colder climates, the rolls can be stored in a heated container on the roof.
In order to weld the seams, the overlap can be pre-heated with the hot-air apparatus, just before the final weld is made.
